When I was little I believed in fairytales. I believed in princesses, princes, daring sword fights that proved how brave a person was, and I believed that good triumphed over evil. As a child, I loved all of the Disney princesses. Fairy tales were not filled with princesses and godmothers— Brynna only saw the monsters. By the time she was ten, she had been told countless times that she was too old for these stories. Even though I have a degree in Cultural Studies and have been aware of this culturally implanted fantasy for years, I still believed, and actively sought, a rescuer (my Prince Charming).
